Who cares what your Loan Officer has to say?

Honestly, you don’t have to care. What matters is the service you receive and access to the right programs with fair pricing. If your gut tells you that you aren’t getting those two things, walk away. That’s the bare minimum.

My professional life is built around a different mindset. Since my humble beginnings in retail banking I have been fiercely passionate (actually quite angry and annoyed) at how much we are taught to sell products. I get it. I am the middle woman between application and loan closing. I am a means to an end. But I feel like people are desperately seeking more.

If you want to be sold, go to someone else. You would be surprised at how many consumers LOVE to be sold and they don’t even know it! We are programmed to look for fast talk and flashy but empty offerings that leave us walking away blissfully unaware of what we just bought. Salespeople are fantastic at making you feel like you are part of a cool club and you’re buying into it even just for a moment. But after a while you wonder why you didn’t have the time or space to ask the questions you didn’t even know you had. You realize the “deal” you were sold wasn’t a deal at all. That’s not fair service and I don’t want any part in that.

Maybe it’s the Gen X in me. Maybe it’s because I was the quiet, shy one for most of my childhood. I absolutely can not stand anything but realness.

This is my first blog post for this page. Consider this a peek into the type of rants you might see here. No AI - this will ALWAYS be 100% written by me. Just like the advice you get - based on over 20 years in finance. No motive to close the deal at the end of the call.

These blurbs are meant for two things. First, a way for you to get to know me as a person and as a professional. Second, an outlet for me to write. Sometimes it will so loosely involve the world of finance that you’ll wonder why I even dropped it here. That’s the idea. Get to know the WHOLE me. This is the only way we build trust.

Happy reading. Happy Borrowing.
